What is Resveratrol’s Promise to Science

    David Sinclair’s research in 2003 was eagerly received by an excited scientific community. Nature published Sinclair’s findings that resveratrol increased the lifespan of yeast cells. This ignited the hopes and dreams an anti-aging compound could be successfully developed. Sinclair’s findings showed resveratrol had the ability to activate a gene called sirtuin 1 just as it could be activated during a period of calorie restriction in various species, and that includes monkeys. A number of other studies have found that fish, fruit flies, mice, and nematode worms that are linked to resveratrol gain an extension in their life spans. A number of other research studies have found anti-cancer effects, anti-inflammatory effects, cardiovascular benefits, anti-diabetes potential, and protection against Alzheimer’s disease. Resveratrol & EU Regulation/Approval

In Europe, resveratrol has had to prove its safety and efficacy to be approved in the various European markets since its widespread commercial introduction in the 1990’s. Therefore, the status resveratrol enjoys will vary depending specifically on what region or country is being discussed.

The Danish supplier, Fluxome, is a good example. Fluxome has established a self-affirmed reputation for their genetically modified yeast-derived version of resveratrol as being a safe product and so it has achieved this status in the United States. Fluxome Readies Resveratrol for US Market

    Fluxome,Inc. is a Danish biotech company and they are getting ready to market a yeast-fermented resveratrol in the US market. Fluxome says they will provide a consistent high quality and purity at a commercially viable price.  Fluxome will be working with CP Kelco to produce and market their new resveratrol.  They have announced that they will launch their product introduction in 2009.
